When is range determination required?

Range determination is essential in various situations, but it becomes particularly critical when the Laser Range Finder (LRF) is inoperable or unavailable. Without a functioning LRF, accurate distance measurement to targets relies on alternative methods. These methods may include visual estimation, using mil-dot reticles, or employing other optical rangefinding techniques. In these scenarios, precise range determination is crucial for ensuring effective target engagement, as accurate knowledge of the range affects not only the aiming adjustments but also the ballistic calculations needed for effective firing solutions.

Other circumstances listed, such as disputes, low visibility, or using non-specialized equipment, may necessitate range estimation or assessment, but they do not carry the same immediacy and necessity as direct reliance on an LRF.
